Claude Team Plan (2026): The Real Floor Is Now 2 Seats and $40 a Month

Update (September 2026): the minimum is now 2 seats

When I wrote this in August 2026, Claude Team was $25 a seat and required five of them, so the whole post was built around a $125 monthly minimum. Re-verified against claude.com/pricing on September 12, 2026: Team is $20 per standard seat billed annually ($25 monthly), premium seats are $100 annual ($125 monthly) with 5x a standard seat's usage (Anthropic's help center says every Team seat includes Claude Code), and the plan is listed for teams of 2 to 150. A two-person business pays $40 a month on annual billing. Everything below about what Team buys you still holds. I've rewritten the math to today's numbers and kept this note so you can see what changed. The short version of the new decision: one person, Pro; two or more, Team.

TL;DR: $20/Seat Is the Sticker. $40/Month Is the Floor.

Anthropic's pricing page lists Team at $20 a seat on annual billing, $25 if you pay monthly. The number that decides the purchase is the two-seat floor. A 2-person agency pays $40/month. A 3-person team pays $60. You pay for the people you actually have.

I install Claude Team for small businesses as my actual job. Back when Team required five seats, I watched owners react to the bill two ways: "that's a rounding error" and "why am I paying for ghosts?" The ghosts are gone. The useful question left is what you're buying Team for, and that's what this post answers. (The full plan-by-plan map, free vs Pro vs Team vs Enterprise, lives in my Claude AI pricing breakdown. Claude Team Plan Pricing at a Glance (2026)

Those are standard seats. Swap any one of them for a premium seat ($100 annual, $125 monthly) for the person who lives in Claude Code or runs heavy Cowork jobs. Annual prepay at the floor is $480/year, so the honest way to think about Team is no longer "a commitment you grow into." It's the cheapest way to put two or more people on one shared, admin-controlled Claude workspace.

OpenAI prices its team tier the same way now: ChatGPT Business is $20 a user billed annually, $25 monthly, with a two-user minimum. When the price is identical, the vendor decision matters more than the plan decision, and I ran that one in Claude vs ChatGPT for business.

What Team Actually Buys That Pro Doesn't

If Team were just "Pro, but shared," it would be hard to defend. Pro is $17/month billed annually ($20 monthly) and you could buy one per human. Team's case rests on four things Pro can't do:

• Claude Cowork, set up once for everyone. Cowork itself now runs on Pro too (claude.com/pricing, September 2026). What Team adds is the shared version: an owner turns on the connectors (QuickBooks, HubSpot, Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Canva, DocuSign, PayPal) and controls which ones the team can use, and skills deploy org-wide instead of living on one laptop. This is the difference between Claude answering questions about your invoices and Claude working in your invoicing tool for the whole team. Full cost math in my Claude Cowork pricing breakdown.
• A shared workspace. Shared Projects, shared Skills, shared knowledge bases — the setup work one person does compounds for everyone. On Pro, every seat rebuilds the same context alone.
• No training on your content by default. On Team and Enterprise, model training is off by default; on Free, Pro, and Max it's an opt-out you have to remember. If you're pasting client financials into a chat window, the default matters.
• Admin controls. Single sign-on, central billing, connector controls. Boring until someone leaves the company still logged into the AI that knows your margins.

My honest read after a year of installs: the shared Cowork setup is the purchase. The rest is furniture. If your business doesn't run on tools Claude connects to, Team's premium over a handful of Pro seats is small but hard to justify, and I say that as someone who makes money installing it. Whether Cowork itself earns the money is its own verdict post: is Claude Cowork worth it.

Claude Enterprise Pricing: The Other Explosion

Searches for Claude Enterprise pricing are up nearly 20x this year, and as of September 2026 there is finally a published answer: Anthropic lists Claude Enterprise at $20 per seat per month, billed annually, plus usage billed at API rates. The seat is the small number; the usage line is the one you have to estimate. (Earlier versions of this page repeated the industry guess of $60–$150 a seat with 20-seat minimums; that guess is retired.) What that buys over Team, per Anthropic's plan table: role-based access, SCIM provisioning, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom data retention, a 500K context window (Team gets 200K), and the HIPAA-ready offering regulated industries can't skip. Single sign-on is no longer an Enterprise perk; Team has it. What Enterprise does not buy: smarter Claude. The models are the models.

One precision worth adding if you're in healthcare: HIPAA coverage doesn't come with Enterprise automatically, and it never comes with Team. Anthropic signs a Business Associate Agreement only for the Claude API and sales-assisted Enterprise plans — self-serve Enterprise and Claude Team are both outside it, at any price. If you handle patient data, read is Claude HIPAA compliant before you pick a tier, because this is the single most common expensive mistake in that decision.

The decision rule I give clients is one sentence: you graduate to Enterprise when a compliance requirement forces you to, not before. Under 50 employees with no regulator in your life, Team covers 99% of what you'll actually do, with the usage already included in the seat.

Claude Team vs ChatGPT Team

As of September 2026 the two are priced identically, so one old difference is gone and one still matters:

• The floor. This used to split them: ChatGPT's team tier started at 2 seats and Claude's at 5. Today both start at two seats, and OpenAI has renamed ChatGPT Team to ChatGPT Business ($20 a user billed annually, $25 monthly). A 2-person shop pays $40/month on annual billing either way.
• The connector ecosystem. Claude's bet is its small business connector set, and QuickBooks and HubSpot in particular are SMB-shaped choices. Pick based on which list matches the tools you already pay for, not on benchmark charts. Deeper comparison in Claude vs ChatGPT for small business.

Claude for Work: The Old Name for Team and Enterprise

If you searched for Claude for Work, you're in the right place. Claude for Work is the older umbrella name for Anthropic's business plans, and today those plans are sold as Claude Team and Claude Enterprise. I checked on September 12, 2026: claude.com/pricing and Anthropic's help center only use Team and Enterprise. The phrase still shows up as the "Claude for work" section of Anthropic's Academy, which links out to the Team and Enterprise pages.

So there's nothing extra to buy. Claude for Work means one of two plans:

• Team: $20 a seat billed annually, $25 monthly, for 2 to 150 people. Premium seats are $100 annual, $125 monthly. Usage comes bundled in the seat.
• Enterprise: $20 a seat billed annually, plus usage billed at API rates. It adds role-based access, audit logs, and the rest of the compliance controls covered above.

For a small business, Claude for Work almost always means Team. You move to Enterprise when a compliance requirement or a headcount over 150 makes you.

The Failure Mode Isn't the Price

Here's the pattern I see on installs: the subscription was never the problem. The problem is seats of a brilliant generalist that nobody configured — no business context, no skills, connectors authorized but unused. Even at the two-seat floor, that's $480 a year of rented office space with the lights off.
