Claude Slides (2026): What It Does, Which Plans Get It, and When to Use PowerPoint Instead

Claude Slides: the short answer

Claude Slides is the presentation builder Anthropic shipped inside Claude on September 16, 2026. Ask for a deck in a normal conversation, Claude drafts the slides, and you edit them, present them from Claude, or download them as PowerPoint or PDF. It is a beta on paid plans, rolling out to Pro ($20 a month) and Max first. Team and Free are "soon." It launched the same day Anthropic merged Claude Cowork and chat into one Claude, alongside Claude Docs, and it arrives with that merge rather than as a separate app.

The pitch on Anthropic's own announcement is the weekly report: ask Claude what moved in the pipeline, have it write the report the way you always do, and put the highlights in five slides for the leadership meeting. Both come out of one conversation, so the slides match the report. That is exactly the job most owners hate doing on Sunday night, which is why this one is worth ten minutes of your attention.

What Claude Slides actually does

• Drafts the deck from a request. "Turn this analysis into a 10-slide deck I can present on Monday" is Anthropic's own example.
• Works from your stuff. Files you upload and apps you have connected (Google Drive, Microsoft 365, Gmail, Slack) are available while it builds, so it can pull last quarter's numbers instead of inventing them.
• Lets you edit directly or by instruction. Select an element and move it, or leave Claude a comment on a slide.
• Exports. Download as PowerPoint or PDF, present from Claude, or share one link that opens on a phone.
• Can run on a schedule. Schedule the Monday report and Claude starts on it without being asked.

Which plans get it, and why you might not see it yet

The rollout is staged by account, not just by plan, so two people on the same Pro plan can get it weeks apart. Anthropic's tell: if your message box still shows separate "Chat" and "Cowork" options, you do not have the new experience yet, and Slides comes with it. There is nothing to switch on, and once your account moves you cannot switch back. If you are on Team, the honest answer this month is to wait; the Claude Team plan lists Design, Slides and Docs, but Anthropic says Team follows Pro and Max. How it bills: the part the launch post skips

There is no Slides price, which makes it sound free. It is not. Per Anthropic's help center, everything you do in the new Claude counts toward your plan's usage limits, and longer tasks that search, run code or create files generally use more than a quick question. A deck built from three reports and a spreadsheet is exactly that kind of task. On Pro that means it draws down the same rolling five-hour window as your chats and Claude Code; build three big decks before lunch and you may be waiting until the afternoon. While the rollout runs, Anthropic also says usage may be measured slightly differently for accounts that have the new experience and accounts that don't.

Claude Slides vs Claude for PowerPoint

These are two different products, and the difference decides which one you use. Claude Slides builds the deck inside Claude and hands you a PowerPoint file at the end. Claude for PowerPoint is an add-in that works inside PowerPoint, on your template, one slide at a time. Use Slides when you are starting from notes, a report or a pile of numbers and want a first draft in minutes. Use the add-in when the deck has to live in your company's master template from the first slide, or when you are editing a deck that already exists. Where it falls short (so far)

• It is a beta. Anthropic says so on the pricing page and in the launch post. Check every number on every slide before it goes in front of a client or a board.
• Brand templates are a Design job, not a Slides job. If on-brand matters, set up your design system in Claude Design or finish in PowerPoint with the add-in.
• Team customers wait. The plan most small companies buy is not first in line.
• By default it asks before it acts. That is the right default, and the reason a scheduled deck still needs someone to review it before it is sent.

The business-owner answer

If you are on Pro or Max and you build a recurring deck, try it on next week's: give Claude the report, ask for five slides, and time it against how long it usually takes you. If you are on Team, you are waiting a few weeks either way. The bigger win is not the slides; it is having Claude connected to the files and apps the deck is built from, so the weekly report writes itself and the deck falls out of it.
