ChatGPT Pricing (2026): Every Plan from Free to $500 Pro, and What Each One Runs Out Of

The short answer

As of October 19, 2026, ChatGPT costs $0 on Free, $8 a month on Go, $20 on Plus, and $100, $200 or $500 a month on Pro. ChatGPT Business is $20 per seat per month billed yearly or $25 billed monthly, with a 2-seat minimum, and Premium Business seats are $100 or $125. Enterprise and Edu are quoted by sales.

Here's the part the price list hides: OpenAI lists everyday text chats as unlimited on every one of those plans, Free included. You're not paying for more chatting. You're paying for better models, more room per conversation, and agent work (Codex, ChatGPT Work, scheduled tasks) that actually runs out. Below is every plan on one table, what each one runs out of, and what a solo owner, a 10-person team and a heavy user really pay in a year.

Every ChatGPT plan on one table

Plan Price Billing Who it's for The catch
Free $0 — Trying it out No GPT-6.1 Sol, Astra or Sol; 27K context (about 12 pages of input)
Go $8 / mo Monthly Light personal use "May include ads"; still no top models, no Sites
Plus $20 / mo Monthly only One person who works in it daily Agent usage capped per 5 hours
Pro 100 / 200 / 500 $100, $200 or $500 / mo Monthly only Heavy individual users No business workspace, no SSO, no admin
Business Standard $20 / seat billed yearly, $25 monthly Monthly or yearly Teams from 2 people 2-seat minimum; same 5-hour caps as Plus
Business Premium $100 / seat yearly, $125 monthly Monthly or yearly Power users inside a team Not discounted for nonprofits
Enterprise / Edu Custom Yearly Large organizations, universities Sales call; seat fees plus usage

Two discounted routes sit off the main ladder. Verified nonprofits pay $8 a Standard Business seat billed yearly ($10 monthly), and larger ones can get up to 75% off Enterprise. Verified U.S. K-12 teachers and staff get ChatGPT for Teachers free through June 2028. One heads-up on that last one: OpenAI's own pricing FAQ still says June 2027, while the Teachers plan page says June 2028. The plan page is the newer of the two.

What each plan actually runs out of

Since chat itself is unlimited everywhere, the real differences are three limits, and they're the ones to check against how your team works:

  • Which models you get. Free and Go stop at GPT-6 Luna. GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol start at Plus, and Pro gets "expanded" access to all of them. If the work is reasoning-heavy (contracts, financial models, long reports), Free and Go aren't the plan, whatever the chat count says.
  • How much fits in one conversation. The everyday model's window is 27K on Free (about 12 pages of input), 54K on Go and Plus (about 40 pages), and 128K on Pro (about 250 pages). The reasoning models get 256K on Go and Plus (about 320 pages) and 400K on Pro (about 680 pages). A 60-page policy manual fits on Plus only in the reasoning model, and on Pro in either.
  • Agent work per 5 hours. In ChatGPT Work and Codex, Plus and Standard Business seats get the same published estimates: 15 to 160 local messages per 5 hours on GPT-6.1 Sol, 5 to 45 on GPT-6 Astra, and 350 to 3,000 on GPT-6 Luna. Pro has no five-hour limit right now, and neither do Premium Business seats, which carry 5x the usage of a Standard seat. The full breakdown, including what happens when you hit the wall, is in ChatGPT usage limits.

The "same $20" trap: Plus vs Business for a small team

Plus and a Business Standard seat both say $20, and that's where most small teams stop reading. They're not the same $20.

The Business $20 is the yearly-billing price, and Business needs at least two seats. So the cheapest Business workspace you can buy is $40 a month, $480 a year, against $240 for one Plus subscription. Paid monthly, Business is $25 a seat, $600 a year for two. For a solo owner, the second seat is the price of having a business workspace at all.

Here's what that money buys. Business doesn't train on your data by default; on Plus, training is on unless each person opts out. Business adds an admin console, SAML SSO and domain verification; Plus has none of those, so when someone leaves, their chats and files leave with their personal account. On agent work, a Standard seat gets the same published 5-hour estimates as Plus, so you're not buying more usage per person. If client or employee information goes into ChatGPT, that's the line where Plus stops being the cheap option and starts being the risky one. The seat-by-seat detail is in ChatGPT Business pricing.

Worked example: a 10-person team for a year

Setup Per month Per year
10 people each on their own Plus $200 $2,400
10 Business Standard seats, billed yearly $200 $2,400
10 Business Standard seats, billed monthly $250 $3,000
8 Standard + 2 Premium, billed yearly $360 $4,320
Nonprofit: 10 Standard seats, billed yearly $80 $960

The first two rows are the point. Ten Plus subscriptions and ten yearly Business seats cost exactly the same $2,400. The only way Plus comes out cheaper is if you'd otherwise pay Business month to month, and even then the gap is $600 a year for admin control, SSO and your data staying out of training. Expensing ten personal subscriptions isn't saving money. It's paying the same for less control.

The Premium row is for the two people who'll live in Codex or ChatGPT Work all day. Giving them Premium instead of Standard adds $1,920 a year, and in return they get 5x the usage and no 5-hour wall. Seat types can be mixed in one workspace, so you don't have to put the whole team on the expensive tier to cover your two heaviest users.

Worked example: one heavy user, Pro or Premium?

If you're the one person running out of usage, there are two ways to buy more of it, and they're priced closer than they look:

  • Pro 100: $100 a month, billed monthly only (OpenAI doesn't offer annual Pro), so $1,200 a year. No five-hour limit. Personal account: no admin console, no SSO.
  • Business Premium: $100 a seat billed yearly, but the 2-seat minimum means one Premium plus one Standard seat, $120 a month or $1,440 a year. No 5-hour limit and 5x a Standard seat's usage, inside a business workspace that doesn't train on your data by default.

So for $240 more a year, the business version adds a second seat for someone else, an admin console and the data default. OpenAI doesn't publish how Pro 100's allowance compares to a Premium seat's in absolute terms, so don't pick between them on "more usage". Pick on whether the work involves client data. Whether the higher Pro tiers are worth it is its own question, answered in is ChatGPT Pro worth it.

Two Pro details that matter this month. Pro 200 is open to new subscribers again, but with a lower allowance than before; if you had Pro 200 at any point between September 22 and September 29, 2026, you keep the old allowance until October 29, 2026, and then it drops. And Pro 500 is the only personal plan with Ultrafast mode, which uses included usage at 8 times the Standard rate. Fast answers, faster burn.

When Business stops being enough

Business is self-serve from 2 seats and covers most small and mid-sized teams. The jump to Enterprise is about controls, not price per seat: SCIM provisioning, enterprise key management, audit logs through the Compliance API, data residency, role-based access control and priority processing. OpenAI doesn't publish an Enterprise price; it's seat fees plus credit-based or token-based usage, negotiated with sales. What it costs in practice and what forces the move is in ChatGPT Enterprise pricing.

Which plan to buy

  • Free to find out whether ChatGPT fits your work at all.
  • Go ($8) for light personal use, if ads don't bother you.
  • Plus ($20) for one person, personal work, no client data.
  • Pro ($100 to $500) for one heavy user who keeps hitting the 5-hour wall and doesn't need a business workspace.
  • Business ($20 to $25 a seat, 2 minimum) the moment two or more people use it for the business, or any client or employee data goes in.
  • Enterprise when security or procurement asks for SCIM, audit logs or data residency.

Buying the seats is the easy part. Getting a team to use them the same way (shared projects, connected apps, who can share what) is where the money is made or wasted. That's the ChatGPT Business setup I do for small teams. The seats are paid to OpenAI; my setup is separate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does ChatGPT cost per month?
As of October 19, 2026: Free is $0, Go is $8, Plus is $20, and Pro is $100, $200 or $500 a month. ChatGPT Business is $20 per seat per month billed yearly or $25 billed monthly, with at least 2 seats, and Premium Business seats are $100 yearly or $125 monthly. Enterprise and Edu are custom-priced through OpenAI's sales team.
How much is ChatGPT Plus?
$20 a month. OpenAI sells Plus monthly only (annual billing is offered for Business and Enterprise, not Plus), so a year of Plus is $240. Plus adds the GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol models, scheduled tasks, Sites, full Codex and ChatGPT Work access, and a larger context window than Free.
Is ChatGPT free?
Yes. OpenAI lists everyday text chats as unlimited on Free, subject to abuse guardrails, the same as on the paid plans. What Free lacks is the stronger models (GPT-6.1 Sol, Astra and Sol are not on Free), scheduled tasks and Sites, and it gets a smaller context window (27K, about 12 pages of input) plus limited image generation, file uploads and deep research.
What is the difference between ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500?
Usage and speed. All three are billed monthly only. Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100, and Pro 500 has the most usage plus Ultrafast mode for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, which burns included usage at 8 times the Standard rate. Pro 200 reopened to new subscribers with a lower allowance; people who had Pro 200 between September 22 and 29, 2026 keep the old allowance through October 29, 2026.
Is ChatGPT Business cheaper than Plus?
Per seat it is the same $20 a month, but only on yearly billing, and Business needs at least 2 seats. So the cheapest Business workspace is $480 a year against $240 for one Plus subscription, or $600 a year if you pay Business monthly. For 2 or more people the price per person is identical on yearly billing, and Business adds an admin console, SAML SSO and no training on your data by default.
Does OpenAI offer a nonprofit discount on ChatGPT?
Yes. Through OpenAI for Nonprofits, verified nonprofits pay $8 per Standard Business seat per month billed yearly, or $10 billed monthly. Premium seats are not discounted. Larger organizations can get up to 75% off ChatGPT Enterprise through sales. There is no nonprofit discount on Plus, Pro or the API.
