Claude Personal Finance: What It Reads, What It Won't Do, and the Business-Account Catch (2026)

Quick Answer

Personal Finance in Claude is a beta, launched November 5, 2026, that links your bank, card, loan and investment accounts to Claude through Plaid, read-only. It's on Pro, Max and Ultra in the US, and not on Free, Team or Enterprise. It reads balances, credit limits and up to 24 months of transactions. You can link a business account, but it lands in your personal plan, and it doesn't do bookkeeping.

TL;DR: a good look at your own money, the wrong place for the company's

Every budgeting app since Mint has promised "see all your money in one place." Claude's version is different in one way that matters: you ask in plain English and it does the math across every account. "Where did my money go this month?" gets a total by category. "What's left before payday?" gets the bills still coming out and the number that's left.

For your household, that's useful today. For your business, read the plan rules before you link the operating account. Anthropic built this for personal plans only, and the gap between "you can link it" and "you should" is where owners get caught.

Anthropic lists it exactly, and it's narrower than most people assume:

  • It reads: bank names; account names, types and the last four digits; balances and credit limits; up to 24 months of transactions with amount, date, merchant, category and the bank's description.
  • It doesn't read: investment holdings, trades, interest rates or loan terms. For investment, loan and card accounts it sees balances and limits only, even if Plaid's screen asks you to consent to more.
  • It can't act: no transfers, no payments, no trades. Read-only, full stop.
  • Limits: up to 16 banks. To add another account at a bank you've already linked, you link that bank again and share every account you want read.

One detail worth checking before you link anything: Plaid passes Claude only the last few digits of each account number, but if your bank writes a full number into an account's name or a transaction description, Claude may see it there.

Which plans get it, and what that costs

Plan Price (claude.com/pricing, read Nov 6, 2026) Personal Finance?
Free $0 No
Pro $20/month, or $17/month billed annually Yes (beta, US)
Max $100/month Yes (beta, US)
Ultra $200/month Yes (beta, US)
Team $20 or $100 a seat billed annually ($25 / $125 monthly) No
Enterprise From $20 a seat billed annually, 20-seat minimum, plus usage No

So the cheapest way in is a personal Pro plan at $204 a year on annual billing. If your company already pays for Claude Team, your work seat doesn't include it, and the full plan-by-plan picture is on Claude AI pricing.

Anthropic's setup guide answers this directly, almost in passing. When you link a bank you've already connected, one option is "Keep both", which it describes as "for a second login at the same bank, such as a joint or business account." So the business checking account can go in.

Three things follow, and none of them are on the launch post:

  • It lives in your personal account. Team and Enterprise are excluded, so the company's transactions sit in a personal Claude plan, under your personal privacy settings, outside any admin controls the business set up. Hub chats aren't used for training, but if you paste those numbers into a regular chat, your personal privacy settings decide.
  • Your totals can lie. Anthropic's own words: if an account sits under both logins and your bank shows it differently in each, "it may be counted twice in your totals."
  • It isn't the books. No invoices, no bills, no payroll, no chart of accounts your CPA uses. It reads bank-feed categories, not your bookkeeping categories.

Here's what the double count looks like. Say you have $8,000 in personal checking and $22,000 in a business checking account that shows up under both your personal login and the business login at the same bank. If the bank labels it differently in each, the one-page total can read $52,000 instead of $30,000. You'd make a very different spending decision off the wrong number. Ask Claude which accounts are behind any total before you act on it, which is exactly what Anthropic tells you to do.

What owners should actually use it for

The honest owner use is the household side of a small business: what you pay yourself, what's left after the personal bills, which subscriptions on the personal card quietly crept up all year. The "anything look off?" question, which Anthropic says catches double charges, surprise fees and bills that grew, is the one to try first.

For the company's money, the job is different. You want drafts of categorized transactions, invoices chased, bills queued for your approval, and a person or a rule that signs off. That's the draft-and-approve setup in AI for bookkeeping, and it runs through tools like QuickBooks wired to a business plan, not a personal bank feed. The connectors that work on each Claude plan are in Claude connectors for small business.

If you want that business setup without paying someone to build it, the CFSB Playbook ($397) walks through it step by step.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Personal Finance in Claude?
A beta Anthropic launched on November 5, 2026 that links your bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts to Claude through Plaid, so you can see balances and spending on one page and ask questions about your own money. Access is read-only: it can't move, manage or invest money.
Which Claude plans include Personal Finance?
Pro, Max and Ultra, in the US only, per Anthropic's Help Center (read November 6, 2026). It isn't available on Free, Team or Enterprise. Pro is $20 a month billed monthly or $17 billed annually on claude.com/pricing. It's rolling out gradually, so a paid account may not see it yet.
Can I connect a business bank account to Claude Personal Finance?
Yes, technically. Anthropic's setup guide offers a 'Keep both' option for a second login at the same bank, 'such as a joint or business account.' But it only runs on personal plans, so the business account's transactions sit in your personal Claude account, not your company's Team or Enterprise workspace. And it reads balances and transactions only, so it is not a bookkeeping tool.
Is Claude Personal Finance safe?
It's built to limit what Claude sees. You sign in to your bank inside Plaid, so Claude never sees your bank password, and access is read-only. Claude sees bank and account names, account type, the last four digits, balances, credit limits and up to 24 months of transactions. Chats in the Personal Finance hub aren't used to train models. Two caveats from Anthropic's own page: if your bank puts a full account number in an account name or a transaction description, Claude may see it, and Claude can make mistakes, so check important numbers with your bank.
Can Claude Personal Finance see my investments and loan terms?
Only balances and credit limits. Anthropic says Claude reads balances and credit limits for investment, loan and card accounts, not holdings, trades, interest rates or loan terms, even if Plaid's screen asks you to consent to more.
How many accounts can I link?
Up to 16 banks, with as many accounts at each bank as you choose to share. To add an account at a bank you already linked, you link that bank again and share every account you want Claude to read.
