Claude Duet (2026): What It Does, Who Gets It, and the Team-Plan Catch for Owners
The short answer
Claude Duet is Anthropic's new proactive agent, opened October 21, 2026 as a research preview for US Claude Pro and Max subscribers, by waitlist. It has no separate price: it's included in Pro ($20 a month, $17 billed annually) and Max ($100 or $200), and it draws on the same usage limits as the rest of Claude. Anthropic says it built Duet "for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track."
Here's the line from Anthropic's own Duet page that the launch coverage skips: Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. So the businesses most likely to want an AI chief of staff, the ones that already moved their staff onto a company Claude workspace, can't turn it on there. That changes how an owner should test it, and which settings to check before connecting the company inbox and books.
What Claude Duet actually does
The regular Claude app waits for you to open a chat. Duet comes to you. From Anthropic's announcement and product page, read today:
- A morning brief. Each morning it summarizes the most important items across the apps you've connected, then checks back every few hours and messages you only when something needs you.
- Tasks by message. You text or talk to it in one running thread: schedule a meeting, find the Gmail and Slack messages you missed, build a dashboard, rebuild a deck.
- It keeps working when you leave. Duet has its own virtual machine with a browser, so your laptop and phone don't need to be on. You get a notification when a task is done or needs review.
- It asks before it acts. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it's about to do and waits. Some things are off-limits even with your approval, like trading securities or moving money between accounts.
- It already knows you. It carries over your memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account, and can use the 6,000+ connectors and plugins in Anthropic's directory.
The business examples Anthropic lists are the useful part for an owner: check QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft the reminders, prepare payroll in Gusto with hours and bonuses filled in, draft follow-ups from HubSpot deal history, get agreements ready in Docusign, and post a job to LinkedIn once you've edited it. It can also buy things for the business through Stripe's Link wallet with a virtual card, after you approve the spend. Anthropic says it runs on Opus 5.5.
Who can get it, and the Team-plan catch
Plan by plan, from claude.com/pricing and the Duet page as of October 23, 2026:
| Claude plan | Price | Claude Duet | Training on your chats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | No | Opt-out setting |
| Pro | $20 a month ($17 billed annually) | Yes, US, waitlist | Opt-out setting |
| Max 5x / 20x | $100 / $200 a month | Yes, US, waitlist | Opt-out setting |
| Team | $20 a seat billed annually ($25 monthly); premium seat $100 ($125) | Not yet | None by default |
| Enterprise | $20 a seat billed annually plus usage | Not yet | None by default |
Read the last two columns together. If your staff is on the Claude Team plan, the owner who wants Duet has to run it from a personal Pro or Max account. That account is a consumer plan. On Team, Anthropic doesn't train on your content unless someone sends feedback. On Pro and Max, training is a setting you have to turn off yourself. Duet's whole job is reading your email, calendar, invoices and payroll, so this isn't a footnote.
The cost side is small: a personal Pro plan for the owner is $200 a year billed up front ($240 paid monthly), on top of whatever the team's seats cost. The real cost is that you're connecting company accounts to a personal plan the company doesn't administer. If you leave, sell, or hand the business to a manager, those connections live in your personal account, not the company workspace.
What I'd check before connecting the business
- Turn off model training first. In your Pro or Max account's privacy settings, switch off the option that lets Anthropic use your chats to improve Claude, before you connect a single business app.
- Connect one app, not ten. Start with the one that eats your mornings (usually the inbox or the invoicing tool). Watch a week of briefs before you add payroll or contracts.
- Read every approval card. Duet shows you exactly what it's about to send or pay. That card is the control. Approving on autopilot turns a careful agent into a fast one.
- Watch your limits for a week. Background checks count against the same limits as your normal Claude use. If you were already near Pro limits, decide whether Duet is worth moving up a plan; is Claude Max worth it has that math.
- Keep staff work in the company workspace. Until Team gets Duet, your team's shared projects, skills and client files should stay where the company controls them.
Duet, Cowork and the regular Claude app
Three Claude surfaces now overlap, so here's the plain split. The Claude app is a conversation you start. Claude Cowork is Claude working through files and apps on your desktop while you're there. Duet is the one that starts the conversation: it watches your connected apps, decides what needs you, and works in the background on its own cloud computer. All three use the same account, memory and connectors, and all three draw on the same plan limits. The full plan ladder, including what each tier's limits look like, is on Claude AI pricing.
Should a small business owner join the waitlist?
If you're on Pro or Max already and you run the business from your inbox and calendar, yes: it costs nothing extra to try, and the morning brief alone tells you within a week whether it catches things you'd miss. Anthropic's own testers include a real estate broker whose brief flagged a showing booked on the wrong day, and a restaurant owner with about 110 employees working through invoices store by store.
If your team runs on Claude Team, I'd wait for Team support for anything beyond the owner's own inbox. And this is a research preview: Anthropic says it may still misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent, so treat its brief as a second set of eyes, not the only one.
Today's micro-action: write down the three things you check every morning before you get to real work (unpaid invoices, the inbox, tomorrow's calendar, whatever yours are). Those three are Duet's first brief. If you'd rather have that context, the skills and the team workspace set up properly in one go, that's the Claude for Small Business install I do.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Claude Duet?
- Claude Duet is a proactive agent app from Anthropic, opened as a research preview on October 21, 2026. Instead of waiting for you to start a chat, it sends a morning brief on what needs your attention across your connected apps, takes tasks you hand it by text or voice, keeps working on its own cloud computer when you step away, and asks for your approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. Anthropic's product page says it runs on Opus 5.5.
- How much does Claude Duet cost?
- There's no separate price during the research preview. As of October 23, 2026, Claude Duet is included in Claude Pro ($20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually) and Max ($100 or $200 a month) for US subscribers, by waitlist. It shares your plan's usage limits with the rest of Claude, and its background checks and larger tasks count toward them.
- Is Claude Duet available on the Team or Enterprise plan?
- Not yet. Anthropic's Claude Duet page says Team and Enterprise plans are not included in the research preview. A business whose staff is on Claude Team would need the owner (or whoever wants Duet) on a personal Pro or Max plan to try it, and that plan runs under consumer settings, where model training is a setting you turn off rather than off by default.
- What can't Claude Duet do?
- Anthropic lists a few things as off-limits even with your approval, such as trading securities and moving money between accounts. It can't yet show you its browser, it lives in its own app separate from the main Claude app, and Anthropic says the early version may misread a thread or misjudge what's urgent. Personal errands like booking tickets are weaker than work tasks.
- Does Claude Duet use up my Claude usage limits?
- Yes. During the preview it shares your plan's usage limits with everything else you do in Claude. Anthropic says it checks your connected accounts every few hours rather than constantly for exactly that reason, and that big jobs such as building a financial model or a deck take more model turns. If you already hit Pro limits most weeks, expect Duet to push you toward Max.
- How do I get Claude Duet?
- Join the waitlist from Anthropic's Claude Duet page with a US Pro or Max account; Anthropic emails you when your access is ready. It's a standalone app on iOS and Android and also works on claude.ai, and it carries over your Claude memory, skills and connected apps, so there's little setup once you're in.

CodeRabbit Pricing (2026): Every Plan, the One-Repo Catch, and What a 10-Developer Team Pays
CodeRabbit costs $24, $48 or $72 per developer a month billed annually ($30 and $60 monthly on the first two), and it's free for public repositories. The detail that decides the plan for a small team isn't the price: Essentials works on one repository and allows five PR reviews per developer an hour, with $0.25 per file after that. DeepSeek vs ChatGPT (2026): DeepSeek Isn't the Cheap API Anymore, and the Data Question Still Decides
DeepSeek vs ChatGPT for a business in October 2026: both chat apps start free, but on the API OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna now costs less per token than DeepSeek Flash, even at DeepSeek's half-price off-peak rate. The worked monthly bill, the one case where DeepSeek still wins, and why DeepSeek's China data storage settles it for most US companies, from both vendors' own pages.
ChatGPT Business vs Plus (2026): Which One a Small Business Should Actually Pay For
ChatGPT Plus vs Business, as of September 2026: Plus is $20 a month for one person and OpenAI may train on your chats unless you opt out; Business is $20 a seat billed annually or $25 monthly, two seats minimum, with no training by default, admin controls, shared projects for groups, and the Company Knowledge plugin. The side-by-side from OpenAI's pages, and three owner scenarios with a verdict each.
ChatGPT for Customer Service (2026): What Works, What Breaks, and What It Costs a Small Business
ChatGPT for customer service, as of September 2026: it drafts replies, answers policy questions from your own documents, and triages an inbox for $20 to $25 a seat a month on ChatGPT Business. It can't look up an order, issue a refund, or remember a customer unless you connect the system that holds them. The honest capability line, the plan you need, a setup in six steps, the failure modes, and the point where a real agent takes over.
